Meet a Student: Alido
Meet Alido, 28 years old from Mpumalanga, South Africa. He is one our students in the Bible school we are working with. Alido comes from a family of 7, but has been fatherless since the age of 6. His elder brother passed away 2003. That same year he found out he was HIV positive. It is highly unusual that a South African would disclose their HIV status. In fact, its illegal to ask! But Alido is different, one of his passions is breaking the stigma and believes that without disclosing your status you can never seek treatment. He was adamant we include this in his story for our website. His ministry is powerful and just about to explode here in South Africa. Last week he was invited to speak at a conference in Johannesburg about treatment of this disease. He runs HIV support groups, working to change mindset and worldview in young people. As a part of YWAM’s Urban team, he is now in the process of starting a center in the townships for people living with HIV. The Bible training he is receiving will give him more tools for this very practical ministry. De Wet is his one-on-one partner, meeting with him to encourage his personal spiritual growth in this school. We cannot even being to say how proud we are of Alido and the destiny God has prepared for him. We are honored to play a small part in his life and see how he multiplies what he has learned!
We look forward to bringing you more close up biographies of the people we are working with.
