25 random things about us
We are still traveling, but have made an overnight layover at De Wet’s parents house. More planes to come today! In the mean time, here are 25 things about the both of us. (thanks to facebook)
1. We've been to a combined 29 countries. Gotta break the 30 barrier soon!
2. We managed to work on the same missions base for over 3 years and never have a conversation, let alone figure out we could be a couple. Geeze.
3. Our apartment is 365 sq feet. We are afraid to ever leave, we love it!
4. We don't own a TV and made it a point to not have one for the 1st year of our marriage.
5. Both our families immigrated to America. Marysol's from Cuba before she was born. De Wet's from South Africa when he was 16.
6. We both learned English second. Marysol when she was around 5. De Wet in his teens. We are now trying to each learn the other's language: Spanish & Afrkiaans so when we have kids, they will know all 3. Its currently a confusing mess of words at our home!
7. We are both extremely passionate that all people: unborn, elderly, every race, disabled, etc are made in God's image and have intrinsic value.
8. We are debt free and love teaching about money. We get freaked out about owing the library money.
9. We think getting married might have been the best choice of our lives second only to our salvation.
10. One day a week we truly rest, OFF, totally OFF! Its usually Sundays, but not always. We guard this day like vultures and often have to apologize to people. Our marriage, our ministry, and our overall health doesn't do well without it.
11. We believe that a Biblical worldview can change a society.
12. We live without central heat or any air-conditioning.
13. We moved our whole lives across the world in 5 suitcases. It can be done.
14. We generally like to live simply and modestly. The thing is modest is different in each culture. Thus the constant dilemma.
15. We can't live without skype. It cannot be done.
16. We have both seen 3 awesome mountains. Mt. Everest + Mt. Kilamanjo + Table Mountain.
17. We love living in Africa and can't wait to raise kids here.
18. If there was one invention we could come up with, it would be a tele-porter. Fast, Free, Instant travel to see people.
19. We rarely bake all our cookies. We freeze the batch of cookie dough and nibble away at it slowly. Often, we don't share
20. We import the following in our suitcases: Cuban seasonings, black beans, American brown sugar, chocolate chip morsels, tide pens, and copious amounts of ziplock bags.
21. Both our parents are happily married and we are so grateful for this heritage.
22. We come from the exact same family structure. 2 kids, Older girl, younger boy, less than 2 years apart.
23. We are geeks. I mean real nerds. Totally unashamed too!
24. We are already keeping an excel spreadsheet with baby names we like. Total planners, I know.
25. In case you actually made it to #24, no we are NOT pregnant.
